Add Shading Elements

The Add Shading Elements tools are used to create 3D shapes to represent buildings external to the building in your OpenBuildings Energy Simulator model. The 3D shapes are selected when creating shading components in the energy model.

Accessed from:

  • Ribbon: Energy Simulator > Shading > Add Shading Elements
Note: Select the tools tabulated below to create the 3D shading shapes. These are common MicroStation Platform tools but when accessed from the Energy Simulator ribbon or keyed in with the below key-ins, they are optimized for use by OpenBuildings Energy Simulator. Hence, they can from the standard versions. Links to the common tool help are provided in the table.
Select To
(Add Shape) Place a polygonal shape by entering a series of data points to define the vertices.
(Add Slab) Place an extruded solid with a rectangular cross-section.
(Add Cone) Place a solid cone.
(Add Cylinder) Place a solid cylinder.
(Extrude Shape) Create a solid generated by linearly extruding a shape element a defined distance.
(Modify Shape) Manipulate faces, edges, or vertices of a solid by pushing or pulling them interactively.
(Merge Shape) Unite two or more overlapping solids.
(Delete Shape) Delete a shading element(s) from the design.
